Riding a VOGE in Madrid
Ring roads and commuting: Most daily riding in Madrid happens on the M-30, M-40 and the A-roads into the city. Adventure models like the 525DSX and 900DSX are comfortable for longer motorway commutes, while the SR4 Radar scooter is a strong choice if you mostly ride inside the M-30.
Low Emission Zones: Madrid's Low Emission Zones restrict vehicles without a DGT environmental label. New VOGE motorcycles meet current emissions standards and qualify for a label, so they can ride across the city, including the central districts.
A city of two climates: Madrid summers regularly pass 35°C, while winter mornings are often close to freezing, especially if you ride up to the Sierra. Plan your gear and accessories for both.
Weekend rides from Madrid
One of the best things about owning a motorcycle in Madrid is how quickly you can reach great roads:
- Puerto de Navacerrada (M-601): The classic climb into the Sierra de Guadarrama, less than an hour from the city, with the option to carry on down to Segovia.
- Puertos de la Morcuera and Canencia (M-611, M-629): Two mountain passes that are often ridden together as a loop, with tight bends and views over the Lozoya valley.
- Carretera de los pantanos (M-501): Heads west towards San Martín de Valdeiglesias and the San Juan reservoir, a favourite with Madrid riders on Sunday mornings.
- Chinchón and Aranjuez: A relaxed ride south-east through open countryside to two of the region's most attractive historic towns.
